Happy Monday Ya'll!
Thank you for tuning into this blog. I truly appreciate it!
"Breaking the Fast." In recent weeks I have implemented a slight change to my diet. I have taken on more of a Keto Diet approach. Which means I have increased the amount of healthy fat, and I fast in the morning. The reason for both is quite simple. Your body will work at a higher level. The increased good fats help with brain function. Is also suppled with a higher intake of protein. Why is an increased intake of protein good? Protein is the building block of DNA. Do you remember RNA from science class? If not, a little memory refresher. RNA aids DNA. Got it? So it's fair to say we need healthy protein.
But If you still don't believe me, here is another great reason for the increased animal protein argument. Take a look at history. Before Humans moved to the top of the food chain, we essentially were vegetarians. Feeding on leftover bone marrow from time to time, but mainly fruits, vegetables and nuts. When we(you, me and all humans) started eating more animal protein, is when we started to flourish in thought/life. It wasn't just because of the protein that was offered from the animal. We also started acquiring a lot of healthy fat. Healthy fat allows the brain to function at a higher level. I can attest to this because I have witnessed clearer thoughts and more energy in the last few weeks. And I haven't increased my calories by a ponderous amount, just increased my fat and protein intake.
The second part of my improvement is the morning fast. I know we have all heard for years, breakfast is the most important meal. Reality is, for kids, studies have shown eating breakfast will help them function at a higher rate. But as far as for adults, its still undetermined. So why should we be fasting in the morning? I am glad you asked. :) There are three things that consume the most energy in our bodies. 1. Mental Stress. 2.Digestion. 3.Sexual intercourse. For this blog we are only focusing on number 2, digestion. When our bodies are digesting food it stops giving attention to other needs in our life. An example of an item in need is inflammation. Inflammation is a broad word when referring to our bodies. Inflammation in the body can mean muscle soreness, common cold or even a serious sickness. Since all sickness/soreness have one thing in common, inflammation. It's beneficial to give our bodies more time to recuperate from our tough schedules, and deal with any potential inflammation. Waiting to eat in the morning(fasting) allows our bodies to deal with these potential hazards. It allows our brain to send energy elsewhere.
So when is it a good time to eat in the morning? Studies I have read suggest adults eating when they are ready/feel hungry in the morning.
My Life since taking on this new diet goes like this. I do not eat food until 11 a.m, sometimes not until noon. I do have coffee in the morning, but not until 9 a.m. I will add a bit of coconut oil and heavy cream on occasion to my coffee, but not all the time. They are both fats so its a good addition. The first two and a half or three hours of my day consist of drinking water. Or how I like to think of it as, Waking up the internal organs. The best thing you can do for your body is give it time in the morning.
Now let's talk about the food on the plate. What you should see, and if you don't see it, you probably should get your eyes checked. :) Is 4 ounces of Smoked Organic Salmon, One Organic Egg, Organic Avocado, Organic Mixed Greens and Organic Sauerkraut. Now lets break down the plate.
Healthy Fat/Brain Food: Salmon and Avocado
Lean Protein: Salmon and Egg
Prebiotic: Mixed Greens
Probiotic: Sauerkraut
I normally will have two eggs, sometimes three with this plate. But I was listening to my body on this day, and I only felt like one. In conclusion to all this information, more fat and protein are essential for your body. But please, before making any dietary changes, talk to a doctor. I am not a doctor. I only give out physicals from time to time, but thats for personal gain. :)
See you for my next blog! I will be covering the myth about someone being skinny and being able to eat whatever you want.
